FORT MCMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man is facing several charges following a collision and confrontation in the Thickwood neighbourhood.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called to Tundra Drive at about 6:02 a.m. on Sept. 27 after receiving a report of a collision involving a possibly impaired driver.
Police say the driver of a 2011 brown Honda Civic struck a vehicle parked on the street.
When the owner of the parked vehicle approached the driver, RCMP say the suspect fled on foot. The victim followed and confronted him, leading to a physical altercation.
Police allege the suspect threatened the victim, stole their cellphone and fled again.
The victim was not physically injured.
RCMP say officers located the suspect walking nearby a short time later. Police allege he fled after seeing officers, prompting a brief foot pursuit.
The suspect was arrested in a residential yard without further incident.
Police say a breath demand was made and the suspect refused.
Christopher Dixon, 30, of Fort McMurray, is charged with resisting arrest, robbery, refusing to comply with a demand and uttering threats.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
Dixon has been released from custody on a release order and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice on Oct. 21.
