FORT MCMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man is facing assault and impaired driving charges after two separate incidents involving police in the early morning hours of Sept. 17.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called to Rivers Casino in downtown Fort McMurray at about 12:53 a.m. for a report of an assault.
Police say a suspect was arrested at the scene and later released on an undertaking.
Two victims were identified. One sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
About two hours later, at approximately 2:18 a.m., RCMP were conducting a check stop on the Athabasca River Bridge along Highway 63 when officers pulled over a vehicle driven by the same suspect.
Police say a breath demand was made and the driver failed the test.
The suspect was arrested for impaired operation but allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle before driving away from the traffic stop.
RCMP did not pursue because of public safety concerns.
Police located the vehicle and suspect at a residence at about 3:20 a.m. and made an arrest without further incident.
Dillon Sacrey, 33, of Fort McMurray, is charged with two counts of assault, impaired operation, failure or refusal to comply with a demand and obstruction of a peace officer.
Sacrey has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Nov. 4.
These allegations have not been proven in court.
