EDMONTON — As winter approaches, Alberta is strengthening tourism ties with Mexico, one of the province’s key international travel markets.
Tourism and Sport Minister Andrew Boitchenko and representatives from Travel Alberta were scheduled to visit Mexico City from Oct. 5 to 9 as part of a mission aimed at expanding tourism partnerships and promoting Alberta as a year-round destination.
The delegation planned to meet with airlines, travel companies and media organizations to promote direct air access to Alberta, showcase tourism experiences and encourage future investment in the sector.
Mexico has become an increasingly important source of international visitors to the province.
The Alberta government says Mexican visitors spent about $51 million in the province in 2025.
Air passenger volume from Mexico increased 38 per cent, while the number of visitors climbed from about 6,000 in 2024 to 8,000 in 2025.
“Mexico is a valued partner and an important growth market for Alberta’s tourism industry,” Boitchenko said.
“Through this mission, we are building stronger relationships, showcasing Alberta’s world-class tourism experiences, creating new opportunities to welcome more Mexican visitors to our province, and strengthening our economy while supporting and sharing Alberta’s story with the world.”
The province says the mission is focused on strengthening relationships with international tourism partners, improving direct air connections and attracting more Mexican travellers to Alberta throughout the year.
