FORT MCMURRAY — A rolling parking ban begins Monday on Winter Maintenance Zone streets as the RMWB activates its Extreme Weather Response Plan.
The municipality says the parking restrictions will move through the WMZ program based on each street’s regular maintenance day, with overlapping schedules meaning more than one group of streets may be under a ban at the same time.
Residents are being asked to check their regular WMZ day and subzone at rmwb.ca/wmz and move vehicles before the first applicable parking ban date.
Monday and Tuesday WMZ streets will be under the ban on Oct. 26.
On Tuesday, the ban will apply to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday WMZ streets.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday streets will be affected Wednesday, followed by Wednesday, Thursday and Friday streets on Thursday.
The ban will apply to Thursday and Friday WMZ streets on Friday, while Friday streets will remain under the restriction Saturday.
All four subzones are included.
The municipality says residents must keep vehicles off the street on every applicable date, even if winter maintenance appears to have already been completed.
Crews will move through activated streets and subzones as work progresses, allowing them to remain in areas requiring additional time or move to another available street when work is finished.
Priority One routes will continue to receive maintenance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while Priority Two routes will remain on their regular schedule.
Those priority routes are separate from the WMZ parking restrictions.
Recycling collection by Circular Materials will continue on regular collection days, although the municipality says an Extreme Weather Response can create conflicts between collection and winter maintenance.
Road crews will work around recycling carts and may move to another street if collection activity creates congestion. Carts may also be temporarily moved to allow winter maintenance to continue.
Residents are asked to remove recycling carts from the street after collection.
Bylaw Services will be involved in the response.
Vehicles parked contrary to an active restriction may be ticketed and moved to the nearest available lawful parking location.
The fine is $400, reduced to $240 if paid within seven days.
Residents unable to locate a vehicle that has been moved can contact Pulse for assistance.
The municipality says residents should continue monitoring RMWB communications for updates throughout the Extreme Weather Response.
