If you grew up wandering the aisles of Toys “R” Us, this is some pretty exciting news. The toy store is making a comeback in Canada, but it’s going to look a little different this time.
Staples Canada has announced a partnership with Toys “R” Us Canada to bring dedicated toy-shopping sections into nearly 300 Staples locations across the country.
So yes, you could soon be picking up printer paper, ink cartridges and a Barbie doll all in the same trip.
The first location is set to open November 14 in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with the rollout continuing throughout 2027. Shoppers will also be able to find Toys “R” Us products online through the Staples website.
And there’s more than just toys coming back. The partnership also includes a new concept called Parties “R” Us, which will feature balloons, party supplies, seasonal items and licensed party products.
This is a pretty big change from the Toys “R” Us stores many of us remember. Instead of those massive standalone stores where you could spend hours looking at toys, the brand will now have its own dedicated space inside Staples.
There’s no word yet on exactly which Staples locations will get the new sections or when they’ll arrive in Alberta, but the plan is to expand across the country.
It’s a second chance for a brand that was part of childhood for so many Canadians. Now the big question is: will a trip to Staples end with office supplies, or will you accidentally leave with a toy you definitely don’t need?
